I did this drawing on location, standing outside and sketching above the 29th st. Mall in Boulder for several hours. I used to take my kids to a coffee shop/playground in this area, so I had seen this view and was back to sketch it. I added color to a scan of the finished pen-and-ink drawing with Photoshop, part of a series of experiments in being able to add color to a digitized image.
In this way, I reasoned that I could add transparent layers of color and easily output that on a printing press. I was successful in that regard, and this drawing in particular is of interest because the only color I added was of the view of Folsom Field and the Flatirons, up at the University of Colorado, which you can see above the railing.
This shows you what the drawing looked like as I was doing it! It was geometrically and architecturally complex, and my brain was loved looking at it all and feeling the mind-body connection relate to perspective and architecture.
